UN Youth New Zealand is a youth-for-youth, non-profit, volunteer organisation which aims to educate and inspire young New Zealanders through what we do and the events we run.
This Division of the Cancer Society was established in 1965 and geographically covers from the East to West Coasts and from the most northern points of Te Araroa and Taranaki to Otaki in the south.
Within the Division are five centres Gisborne-East Coast Hawke's Bay Manawatu Taranaki Wanganui–Rangitiki-Waimarino with a combined population base of over ½ million people.
The Regional Cancer Treatment Service is based at Palmerston North Hospital (Midcentral District Health Board). Special accommodation for cancer patients receiving treatment and their families is provided at Ozanam House in Palmerston North through a joint trust run by the Society’s Manawatu Centre and St Vincent de Paul Society.
Most Cancer Society services in this region, although coordinated by the Division are provided and organised from the five centres including:
• Support services and cancer information
• Prevention & early detection of cancer including tobacco control, skin cancer avoidance, cancer control through nutrition and physical activities
• Advocacy for high standard cancer services and patient access in the region
Cancer Research – funding support for the Society’s national research Programme. In addition the Central Districts Research Trust Fund was established in 2000 to increase donations for cancer research. All funds donated go to research and any administration costs of the trust are covered by the division. For more details see To Help Us “Research “
Annual Scholarship - advertised and awarded annually to applicants working in a cancer service area in the central districts region for educational development for health care professionals, the development of a special interest/expertise in the cancer field or any proposal that would benefit the control of cancer in the Central Districts region.
