As well as an ever evolving collection of my own finished and in progress artworks the gallery also includes pieces from selected artists to create a more diverse and interesting experience for visitors. A community based gallery, it encourages all Taranaki artists to exhibit and offer works for sale. Established in 2003 and administered by theTaranaki Arts Community Trust TACT, Real TArt has become the place to see the widest selection of Taranaki painting,pottery, photography,jewellery and other media under one roof. In addition to exhibitions, Real TArt also has varied art workshop programmes for adults and children. The gallery is available for hire as a function venue with catering by the Devon Hotel team which offers a wide range of menu options. The gallery is housed in the historic Masters building thanks to the generosity of the building owners Rosemary and Peter Tennent. It hosts an ever changing array of works and is centrally located at the seaward end of Egmont Street in New Plymouth's CBD Michael Smither (CNZM) is the Patron of the gallery and a big supporter of our local art scene. April 2013: The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery will be closed for up to two years to enable work on earthquake strengthening, deferred maintenance and renewals and the construction of the Len Lye Centre. The Govett-Brewster team will be very active during the two years with off-site projects, touring exhibitions, public programmes and collaborations with other cultural organisations throughout Taranaki and New Zealand.
