Natalie McMurchie *Artist*

Natalie McMurchie *Artist*

Natalie's paintings are inspired by her surroundings, with particular interest in the forms and structures of flora and fauna. Her sculptural background is evident in her paintings which often have a very form based approach. Natalie enjoys working with textures, patterns and forms and pushing the boundaries of traditional painting. Natalie's faith is evident in her work. She draws inspiration from her spiritual life and her spiritual discoveries are often undertones in her work. She loves to explore contrasts in her work whether through the use of positive and negative space, chaos and order or light and dark. A common subject matter in Natalie's painting is the native Tui bird. She combines this iconic and symbolic bird with delicate feminine detail and local flora and fauna. Her paintings are designed to be beautiful, something can you look at that brings a sense of joy to your life, whilst encompassing a deep spiritual meaning. In 2003 Natalie attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, from Wanganui Quay School of the Arts. In 2009 she gained her Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching with Distinction from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute in Tauranga. Currently Natalie is producing her art work from her home studio in Otaki and teaching art at a local Secondary School. 2012 SECOND ANNUAL EMERGING ARTIST AWARD AND EXHIBITION ARTRIUM GALLERY Finalist 2012 ARISE EXHIBITION NGAPURAPURA ART SPACE Solo Show 2012 NZ ART SHOW WELLINGTON General Exhibitor 2011 BAKERS DOZEN OTAGO Group Show 2011 KAPITI ARTS TRAIL 2011 DESTINED FOR GREATNESS WAIKANAE LIBRARY Solo Show DESTINED FOR GREATNESS OTAKI LIBRARY Solo Show NEW ZEALAND ART SHOW WELLINGTON General Exhibitor 2009 OTAKI ART SPACE ARTY AUGUST Solo show

draw inc.

draw inc.

113 Alexandra Street, City Centre, Hamilton ,
draw inc. is a Hamilton based collective of practicing artists with a mission to “Engage the World through Art”. We all share a passion for Art and our fundamental belief that Art enhances community is a driving force behind our actions. For the past eighteen months, our focus has been on supporting the working artist by exposing the wider community to the benefits of Art. We have renovated empty retail spaces in the Hamilton CBD and transformed them into pop-up art galleries. Emerging and established artists are invited to exhibit their work where we encourage robust dialogue and reflection by the community in a transparent, non-threatening way. Early in 2012 we won the Innes48 hour Business Start-up competition which has set in motion a new direction for draw inc. We have developed a business model to promote the benefits of artworks to the corporate sector, via options such as renting, or purchasing. We strongly believe that, in the same way that fashion brands the individual, artworks can enhance the branding of a company. Our expertise and access to exciting, new contemporary art can help a business achieve a unique edge and help to communicate the company’s ideals to the public, in a way that supports local artists. We believe Art makes a difference. We continue to promote our beliefs with valuable support from Hamilton businesses, hard work and commitment from the draw inc members and ongoing patronage from the community.
