The Hokitika Museum’s core function is to manage the community’s heritage collection and share Westland’s stories with visitors and residents through exhibitions, displays, publications and public programmes.
The museum’s core values are trust-worthiness, authenticity and accuracy and we are responsible caretakers who are passionate about Westland’s history.
A New Zealand fencible village illustrating the 1840-1880 period, with costumed guides, authentic furniture displayed in the buildings, chickens and ducks in the village pond and renowned heritage gardens. The village comes to life the third sunday in the month, costumed characters inhabit the cottages, a blacksmith lights his forge and soldiers fire their guns!
The gallery has an ever-growing reputation as a venue where both established and new artists can successfully display and sell their work. One of the most exciting things about the gallery is the degree of personal assistance we offer artists with their exhibition which are changed monthly. City gallery is more than happy to help organise an opening night which would be held on the first friday of your exhibition. We look forward to seeing you at the City Gallery soon.
