Our philosophy is based around our natural environment with a focus on providing positive experiences with nature and the outdoors. We believe regular play and contact with the outdoors helps develop a sense of wonder which is an important motivator for lifelong learning. Kidsbarn will be developed around natural resources, trees, grass, lots of space and a “back to basics” approach. We aim to develop vegetable gardens and an orchard from which our children will be encouraged to grow and harvest produce. This produce will then be incorporated into a healthy eating plan through fueled for life and the heart foundation that will provide our children with nutritious meals. Children will be encouraged to use the natural cycles that occur in our outdoors to provide real-life learning and helping them to develop empathy for our natural environment. As well as a focus on the outdoors we aim to develop a preschool programme. We believe that this is a very important stage and we hope to provide resources and education that will make this transition a happy and exciting time for children and their families. Most of all we want our children to have fun in a safe and caring environment.

Riverlea Contractors is family owned - Mike and Claire Silson own and operate the business in partnership with Mike's parents John and Betty Silson. John and Betty started contracting in 1986 from the same rural residence that is now Mike and Claire's home in Riverlea, Kaponga. Mike has been driving since he was 14 years old. The business grew from small beginnings as John and a neighbour started harvesting grass "just for a hobby and just for the neighbours". The Silsons now employ up to 20 staff during the season, and offer a huge range of services covering HARVESTING, CULTIVATION and TRANSPORT.
