Kavanagh College

Kavanagh College

Kavanagh College is a Catholic Secondary school in Dunedin, New Zealand. The school in its present form dates from 1989 but its origins as a secondary school go back to 1871.It has 900 students and was founded in 1989 as a merger between St Pauls High School (formerly named, firstly, Christian Brothers School and then, Christian Brothers High School), Moreau College (a school for girls which was itself an amalgamation of St Dominics College and St Philomena's College) and St Edmunds School (a primary and intermediate school for boys). The founders of the school were the Dominican Sisters, Sisters of Mercy and the Christian Brothers. Kavanagh College has the longest tradition of consistent Catholic Education for one site, its Rattray St location. The first Principal was Brother V I Jury, a Christian Brother who left the role in 1991.Kavanagh College has four main blocks of classrooms: the Mercy Block, the Dominican Block and the Bodkin Block, along with the Science block. Kavanagh is located near the centre of Dunedin and close to many facilities including the Otago Polytechnic and University of Otago.Origins of Kavanagh CollegeKavanagh College has its origins in at least seven different earlier schools. These are: a school operated by lay persons and attached to St Joseph's Church (later St Joseph's Cathedral, Dunedin) called St Joseph's School; St Dominics College (for girls); St Philomena's College (for girls); Moreau College (for girls); the Christian Brothers School (for boys) and its successors, Christian Brothers High School and St Paul's High School; and St Edmunds School, South Dunedin (a primary and intermediate school for boys).

Otago Boys' High School Foundation

Otago Boys' High School Foundation

Otago Boys' High School has long been recognised as a yardstick by which others measure themselves and the establishment of its Foundation will ensure it remains atop the pedestal. Part of the Foundation's early work centres on the compilation of a complete and up to date database of the school's old boys. The assemblage of this information will allow the Foundation to inform its alumni, former Rectors, Masters and parents and supporters about various events and the progress of the Foundation, as well as encouraging a culture of giving. Of the 24,500 boys to have passed through the school, more than 16,500 are alive and we're planning to trace them all as well as accumulate details about those who have passed on.
Taieri College

Taieri College

Taieri College, formerly called The Taieri High School and, prior to 1956, the Mosgiel District High School, is a co-educational state school in Mosgiel, Dunedin, New Zealand. In 2003 a review of the schools on the Taieri Plains by the New Zealand Ministry of Education proposed that the high school would merge with Mosgiel Intermediate School (est. 1973) to become Taieri College from 2004. Because of this merger, ready-made classrooms were built for the intermediate students, as well as a second technology block. The roll expanded to over 800 in its first year, compared with the former high school's number of under 650 students.ClassroomsIn 2005 it was announced that more classrooms were to be built as well as refurbishment of present classroom blocks. In 2006 the roll exceeded 1000, making it one of Otago's largest schools. Zoning has been proposed to cap or maintain future numbers, as classroom space is becoming limited, even though a new two-storey classroom block, G block, has been completed.Famous alumniWarwick Meehl - NZ Basketball International Adam Hall (alpine skier) - Winter Paralympic gold medalist 2010Ian Foster - Assistant All Black Coach Michael McGarry - All WhiteSteve Hansen - All Black Head Coach Brett Gamble (Former TTHS Head Boy) - NZ Young Executive of the Year 2006Gail Tipa - NZ Womens Cricket Representative 1976Robert Reid - Drummer with band, The Knobz.Barry Milburn - NZ Test Cricket Wicketkeeper 1969.

It is located in the heart of the city extending from The Octagon, the central plaza, to Moray Place through a whole city block. It is the seat of the Dunedin City Council, providing its formal meeting chamber, as well as a large auditorium and a conference centre. The oldest part of the building has been called the only substantial Victorian town hall still in existence in New Zealand. It isn't but it may be the most substantial Victorian municipal building still in use in the country for its original purpose.
