Westlake Girls' High School
Westlake Girls High School is a state single-sex girls secondary school, located on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand.The school in the suburb of Takapuna, west of Lake Pupuke and adjacent to North Shore Hospital, the Auckland Northern Motorway, and the Northern Busway's Smales Farm station. Serving girls from Year 9 to Year 13 (age 12-18), Westlake Girls has a roll of 2237 students as of June 2011, making it New Zealand's eighth-largest school, and the country's largest single-sex girls school.HistoryThe school has its origin in 1958, when it opened as a co-ed institution. In 1962 Westlake Girls' and Westlake Boys High School emerged as separate schools, though they maintain relations.Westlake Girls and BoysPhysically merely a few hundred metres apart, Westlake Girls and Westlake Boys engage in an annual theatrical production together, several joint musical ensembles , and some social dances, among other things. The joint choir, "Choralation", has won the top award in the nation wide secondary schools choir competition The Big Sing for three years in a row, something never done before in the history of the competition. The two schools share a motto - Virtute Experiamur .
