Aorere College

Aorere College

Aorere College is a co-educational state secondary school that was established in 1964 in Papatoetoe, Manukau, Auckland, New Zealand. Patrick Drumm is the principal of the college. As of 2010 there were approximately 1,550 students enrolled.FacilitiesDue to the rapid increase in student population over the past couple of years the school has had to construct new buildings to accommodate all the students attending Aorere. The new "Colin Pascoe Gymnasium" was officially opened on Thursday 1st April 2010 by The Minister of Education Anne Tolley. In attendance were formal principals of the school and community leaders. It is situated directly opposite the current "Charles Herbert Gymnasium". There is approximately a 40-year gap between the construction of both gyms. A dance studio will be added to the new gym, this is due to the rapid growth in the number of students wanting to partake in dance at the school. The school has continued to undergo renovations which enhances not only student achievement but community involvement. Term Two 2010 saw Aorere start its very first radio station. Students and staff enjoy this whole-heartedly.The school has invested $1.4 million into a new building project. Construction on the new library will commence later in 2010. It will be situated where the old library was based with seven state-of-the-art classrooms surrounding. This project is expected to be completed in mid-2011.With the growing of our school's Dance & Drama department, a dance studio is being constructed directly beside the new Colin Pascoe Gymnasium. The completion date for this project is yet to be confirmed.

School caretaker Richard Nel received burns to 90 percent of his body and later died of his injuries in hospital. A contractor was also critically injured, receiving severe head injuries and burns to the abdomen and legs, but survived the accident. The school's board of trustees was subsequently charged under sections 6 and 16 of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. They pleaded guilty against all charges at the court-case in April 2010, and were subsequently ordered to pay reparation and court costs totalling nearly $137,000.International StudentsInternational students make up for around 20% of the school roll.Germany and Japan have ongoing exchange programmes with the college - students stay from 3 months to 3 years.Other international students are immigrants to New Zealand and their high volume reflects that of the Northern Auckland population of high foreign immigrants, mostly from Asian countries.

Yendarra Primary School

Yendarra Primary School

226 Bairds Road, Otara, Auckland ,
Yendarra’s Beginnings Our school was named after the Yendarra Homestead, designed by an English architect and constructed in 1900 for Mr James Goodfellow. ‘Yendarra’ is an Australian Aboriginal name for ‘Grape Orchard’ or ‘Vineyard’. Mr Goodfellow sold the property in 1920 to the Dilworth Trust Board. At that time, the property consisted of 200 acres with large stables and the Homestead. We are told that the grounds were most impressive, with beautiful gardens and trees. Today we are working hard to further develop our physical environment so it also is ‘the best it can be’ and a wonderful learning place for our children and teachers. In 1932 Mr C.J. Lovegrove purchased the property, bred pedigree Jersey cows and planted an extensive orchard and a Kauri Tree. At a later date, the property passed into the hands of Mr Noel Simpson who sold it to the Crown, as part of the Otara development. Yendarra School was then built and officially opened on Saturday 16th November 1968.
