Tatsumi Modern Japanese Cuisine and Bar

We are Yoko and Koichi of TATSUMI.
We moved from Christchurch to Newmarket, Auckland in Oct 2011. After the earthquake in February 2011, our restaurant TATSUMI had to close. We were still hoping to reopen our restaurant in Christchurch because that city made us the way we are now. We had great customers and they gave us a lot of positive reviews. However, the old TATSUMI was in the red zone which is still not open to the public even today. It was the customers who gave us the courage to relocate to Auckland. We still think so much about Christchurch and the people there. On the other hand, we think it will be great if they can see us doing well in Auckland. We hope that this will give them their courage back.
Since we relocated to Auckland, it has been a struggle to figure out how we can match our restaurant to our Auckland customers' needs. Unlike other Izakaya and take away type Japanese restaurants, we suggest customers experience our meals in a three-course style; entree, main, and dessert. Our food is very original with extra flavors and surprises. It is a European-inspired Japanese fusion style based on Koichi's 17 years of experience as a chef. Koichi worked at many hotels and restaurants both in Japan and in NZ, such as Crowne Plaza Hotel, Remarkable Lodge in Queens Town and The George Hotel in Christchurch. A lot of our plates present a very nice mix of originality and authenticity.
As well as the delicious food, we believe that the atmosphere and service are as important. The dining and bar area of TATSUMI is cozy and private to suite your business and any other occasions. Yoko with her 20 years of experience at prestigious hotels in Tokyo ensures the service is friendly and professional.
We want to make sure that customers really enjoy the whole experience of dining at TATSUMI instead of just consuming food.
There are so many more Japanese restaurants here compared to Christchurch. We do have a lot of competition, but we are very sure that Aucklanders will love our uniqueness.
We hope to see you soon at new TATSUMI in Newmarket.
