According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, "The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc." Of the more than 3000 established disc golf courses as of 2010, approximately 87% are free. The game is played in the United States and more than 20 other countries around the world. The Wanaka Musician's Club is a performance session held every second Sunday at Mint Bar. The main aim is to provide local talent with an opportunity to showcase their skills in a friendly supportive environment. More than just an open mic night, a full stage's equipment including all amplification, instruments and sound system is supplied, catering to a wider array of musicians. Drummers, bassists, keyboard players etc. all have a chance to perform. The club also provides entertainment for the community and revenue for Mint Bar. The singer songwriter circle is a multifaceted, fortnightly meeting of local songwriters with a focus on group participation. Taking place at the Wanaka Arts Centre, it aims to provide an inspiring and supportive space for local artists to hone their songwriting skills. It promotes opportunities for musicians to meet and network, or to form potential musical partnerships. The singer/songwriter circle offers mentorship and workshops with practical direction.
