A small, dedicated group focused on sharing their love for performing arts with the public. The group is open to people of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in theatre - both on stage and off. An annual pantomime provides local youth with the opportunity to experience live performance in front of their peers - where they are guided and mentored by experienced older members.
The club was chartered in 1960, and in that time Waiuku has grown from a service town for the farming industry, with a weekly influx of farmers on sale-day, to a steel mill town with the regular movement of shift workers, to a dormitory town of greater Auckland with the daily exodus of workers to work in the city.
Through all these changes the Rotary Club of Waiuku has tried to reflect the needs of the community. In particular the club tries to support those projects that benefit the youth of the district.
Wanaka Wastebusters was set up by our community in 2000 with a mission to work towards zero waste. All our profits go back into the community. We employ 25-30 people (depending on the season) and have a turnover of over $1 million.
