Waitakere Ranges - WEST

Waitakere Ranges - WEST

Seaview Road, Piha ,
Waitakere Ranges – WEST Wind • Earth • Sea • Track Approximately 28kms west of Auckland City, bounded by the wild Tasman Sea and the moody Manukau Harbour, sits the rugged beauty of native forest and black sand surf beaches known as the Waitakere Ranges. This facebook page is my tribute to a special place that has quietly woven itself into the fabric of my life and enriched my soul for the better. Dozens of excellent, stunning books have been published about the Waitakere ranges, and I urge you to seek them out, but one book that influenced my decision to get to know the Waitaks better was, ‘Walking The Waitakere Ranges’ by Alison Dench and Lee-Anne Parore. This book is a comprehensive wealth of information about the Waitakere Ranges and a brilliant guide to walking or tramping there whether you are a beginner or an experienced tramper. Also, if you do plan a trip to the Waitaks, be sure to swing by the wonderful Arataki Visitors Centre on the Scenic Drive, 6km west of Titirangi, for up-to-date info on weather, tides, and track closures etc. Finally, do your bit to help stop the spread of kauri dieback. For more information go to www.kauridieback.co.nz A few brief stats: • The Waitakere Ranges includes 16,000 hectares of native forest and coastline • Approx. 250km of walking and tramping tracks • Highest point 474 m – Te Toiokawharu • 5 reservoirs (dams) supply water to the Auckland region • The ranges receive an average of 2000mm rainfall annually All photos copyright FeroxFotos
