AUT University Fashion/Textiles/Costume: Exhibitions and Events

WM Building 40 St Paul Street, Auckland ,
AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand, entered its 10th year as a University in 2010. To celebrate, the School of Art & Design combined their end-of-year graduating students' shows into one major festival of exhibitions and events. Named AD10, it incorporated all exhibitions across the disciplines of Digital, Fashion, Graphic, Product, Spatial, and Textiles Design, as well as Visual Arts, and the respected Fashion Rookie runway show. This page takes the place of the group originally created to celebrate AD10. It has now been updated to support continuing Fashion Department exhibitions and Events. The AD10 Art + Design Festival (text by Kathryn Hardy Bernal, 2010): Fashion Design The Rookie Show Shed 12, Rhubarb Lane Fashion and Costume Design Exhibitions WM 505, WM601, WM605, WM705 (School of Art and Design) The Fashion major offers a dynamic learning environment that reflects the needs of a rapidly changing industry and encourages students to explore innovative and conceptual approaches to their work. It allows students to develop their own individual style that echoes the diversity of the fashion world. The result of this approach is to be demonstrated in the unique and inspirational final outcomes produced by our graduating students. In 2010, the highly respected Rookie Show ran concurrently with the AUT University AD10 Festival, and was housed at a new and exciting venue, Shed 12, Rhubarb Lane. Rookie is a curated runway event that showcases exceptional collections by selected Bachelor of Design (Fashion) students, working within the specialisations of Women’s Wear, Men’s Wear, and Knitwear. The AD10 end-of-year static exhibitions in Fashion Design, held in the WM building of the AUT University City Campus, incorporated diverse creations by graduating students from the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) and those completing postgraduate qualifications in this discipline. The displays represented students who chose to work with Women’s Wear, Men’s Wear, and Knitwear, and included a specialist Costume show. As part of the ten-year celebrations, and acknowledging its role in the University’s history, the Fashion Department staged its final Diploma in Applied Fashion Technology exhibition. This was also a curated show of selected students that recognised these very last pre-degree graduates in Fashion at AUT University. Textile Design Textile Design Exhibition WM701 (School of Art and Design) Included in the line-up for AD10 was the inaugural Bachelor of Design (Textiles for Fashion) end-of-year exhibition, showcasing the work of the first ever students at AUT University to graduate from this discipline. During its initial three years, this design major has developed into an interdisciplinary model that crosses over from textiles and fashion, into areas such as visual arts, interior and product design. This group of students, therefore, displayed pieces that spanned these fields of creative production. Featured in this exhibition was work that utilised and represented diverse media and modes of expression. Included in this show were examples of digital design and print; textile design and product; design and product for interior decoration; knit design for fashion; fashion garments and fabrics; experimental embroidery; fashion accessories; laser-cut leatherwork, and installation. This exhibition aimed to be inspirational and stimulating, providing motivation, particularly to a potential student who might be looking to study in a flexible creative environment.
