Petone Beach Kindergarten

Petone Beach Kindergarten

20 King Street, Petone ,
Our programme provides a range of opportunities for the children/whānau and wider community. We are very fortunate to be amongst our Petone Community, so we are able to walk to places, e.g.: Library, local schools and the beach. In our programme we weave in biculturalism, the virtues values and we value whānau and community input. We focus on social skills and encourage independence, confident, competent and capable learners. We have a large outdoor area with beautiful trees which stimulates movement. And most of all, we like to have fun as we learn! Our Committee supports the kindergarten by fundraising, applying for grants, undertaking small maintenance tasks and supporting the teaching team. Parents and Whanau find that being on the committee is a great way to meet people and to become more involved in our Community. We are always looking for new members to join at any time. If you are interested please let a teacher know.

'Full time' is five days a week for at least 6 hours per day. We will endeavour to meet your particular needs for hours/days for your child or children. We have 3 age groupings, in two buildings, at each address: Nestlings Education Programme You may think that “curriculum” is a strange word to use in a centre that is catering for babies and small children. Every educational setting will have a curriculum; a course of study or “subjects” that are taught. Many times this curriculum is not obvious to the children who experience it, or their parents, but will be to the teachers involved. Nestlings have a special space for the babies, alongside the 2 year olds. Babies have a ratio of 1 teacher to 3 children; the 2 year olds have a ratio of 1 teacher to 6 children. Fledglings Educational Programme for 3 and 4 year olds At Tui we value children’s strengths, interests and abilities. We recognize young children’s need to develop their abilities to become independent and their desire to begin to guide their own learning experiences and outcomes. To achieve this we include a variety of free play and planned structural events within the routine of the Tui day. Play as a Teaching Tool. At Tui, play is seen to be a meaningful learning experience which focuses on processes, roles and interactions between people and objects. Studies show the links between play and many foundation skills and complex cognitive activities such as memory, self regulation, oral language abilities, successful school adjustment and better social skills. Fledglings cater for the 3 and 4 year old children. These children have a ratio of 1 teacher to 8 children.
