Located at the base of the Flames International Hotel carpark, Lava Bar is an island bure set in tropical gardens. It is the perfect family friendly environment to relax and enjoy the weekend afternoons/evenings. Steinlager is available on tap plus we have a wide range of other beers, wines & spirits. Bar snacks and fine-dining meals are available to be ordered from Vie Restaurant and served in the Lava Bar. We look forward to having you join us at the Lava Bar! Note: The Lava Bar also features its own wood-fired pizza oven. It is only currently available for group bookings, but we will be looking operate it daily in the near future.

In 2013 we are fielding 5 teams. JBN (ripper), JB1, JB2, JB3 & JB5 Practice nights for JBN-JB3 are on Wednesday nights at Onerahi Primary School fields from 3.15 to 4.30pm JB5 practice nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm at the Alamein Ave fields

Open for everyone to enjoy, and just a boat ride from Whangarei city or a short paddle from the suburb of Onerahi, community input has transformed Matakohe-Limestone Island from degraded pasture into a regenerating forest habitat – 155,000 trees planted and counting. Mammalian predators have been eradicated from the island, meaning this ‘new’ forest is now a safe home for a growing variety of threatened native fauna that have been re-introduced, including kiwi, banded rail, New Zealand dotterel, moko skink and forest gecko. The island is also the site of Matakohe pa and once extensive kumara gardens, as well as the impressive ruins of one of Whangarei's earliest industrial sites - the Limestone Island cement works, founded in 1856. Restoration efforts are coordinated by members of the community, the Friends of Matakohe–Limestone Island Society (FOMLI), in partnership with Whangarei District Council, made possible thanks to the support of numerous partners and sponsors such as Golden Bay Cement.
