The MIT Creative Writing Team is led by renowned poet Robert Sullivan with distinguished NZ writer Witi Ihimaera, foremost pioneering Pacific author Albert Wendt, and critically acclaimed fiction writer and journalist Sue Orr. Find a path to the ideal country of your soul and your heart as a student on this unique programme. Our philosophy is to guide students to produce strong emotionally centred work with the end goal of achieving formal publication. The Diploma in Creative Writing (Level 5) consists of eight 15-credit courses and is one year full time (also offered part time). The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) is a three-year degree course. In the first two years, through regular workshops, journal writing, and reading as writers, we focus on key genres of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. We also offer papers in screenwriting and digital writing. The final year of the degree is a culmination of previous creative work to achieve a book-length manuscript, or an extended collaboration with an artist or performer. A unique aim of this programme is to enhance collaborative work across the arts, so students are encouraged to take up informal and formal opportunities to work with other students and tutors who are performing artists and visual artists.
