Rebuild Christchurch

Rebuild Christchurch

We are a non-profit independent community group provided to serve the residents of Christchurch, impacted from the effects of the multitude of earthquakes and aftershocks since September 4th 2010. We are volunteers who are passionate about Christchurch being rebuilt for the people. The website operates independently alongside the Rebuild Christchurch Foundation . The Foundation was set up to help on the ground with the issues that many of our residents continue to face. We aim to help keep the public engaged through the Rebuild of Christchurch. The independence of rebuildchristchurch.co.nz is clear with direct engagement with and contribution from CERA, CCC, EQC, EQR, media, networks residents and other organisations that are responsible for shaping our city’s future. The website offers a service where you can have your opinion. You can post images, articles, opinion pieces and more. All this information will help to record the time line of how we rebuild our city, our lives and our community. Community Empowerment via www.rebuildchristchurch.co.nz Aim: To provide a platform for both community empowerment and hope following the major earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 By providing a platform that both engages with users on the issues of topics in their neighbourhood and assisting them to understand and have an awareness of the situation they face in an ever changing environment. What we provide: · Media — any time that information relating to your neighbourhood is circulated in the news we publish this in the relevant suburb feed. We collect information through mainstream media outlets, community papers, neighborhood blogs, discussion boards and automatically update this section when it is mentioned. · Neighbourhood messages — We plan to include discussion forums on each section within the suburbs where residents groups in those areas can update and call to action any needs arising. The more people get involved the better for each suburb. This will include calendars and other tools. · Official information — We work alongside the official rebuild and recovery agencies as the “go to” place for disseminating information to our residents of Christchurch. All the releases made by the government, local council, business sector, NGO sector and even residents themselves are posted to the main section of the site and tagged to the suburbs as appropriate where residents can view the information they need to know. Projects; We intend to introduce a project section which will include; building consent data, businesses that are operating, latest roadwork information and any other rebuild relevant information for that suburb. This is where users, through applications we develop, will be able to know what rebuild activities are happening in the area they live. Residents will also be able to contribute to this by uploading images of existing and newly identified projects which will add to the large amount of relevant information for that suburb. It will also serve to reassure residents that they are providing a valuable service towards documenting the rebuild over the next 10 years. Why do we provide this: In many cases, this information is already on the Web but is buried in hard-to-find government databases or other websites that are not easy to find or popular. In some, this information has never been posted online. We have developed and will continue to develop relationships with government and other agencies to make it readily and reliably available. · Fun and activity from across the Web — We have agreements with many local photographers to use their images as a documentation. We will integrate this information to Facebook and Twitter to involve neighbourhoods and empower people to share their own information where they see fit. As part of this, keep an eye out for the fun events we plan to host. Problems we solve: We saw that there lacked a good place to keep track of everything happening related to the earthquake; from news coverage to events to photography. We try to collect all of the news, events, topics and Government dealings that have happened recently in the city, and make it simple to keep track of news in particular suburban areas. There also lacked a good way to post messages to your neighbors online. Facebook lets you post messages to your friends, Twitter lets you post messages to your followers, but no well-used service that let you post a message to people in a given suburb area. We plan to remedy this by including a forum into each suburb for people to post and keep up to date. We have a long road ahead and together we will rebuild a new Christchurch. If you have questions please email us by using the contact us page. We are interested in working with any community group to help spread the word and keep everyone up to date and informed. Thank you
