Taking ownership of challenges and engaging in a team approach to developing solutions contributes to positive growth. We offer a Military Services Academy for students in Years 12 and 13. This academy serves as an excellent precursor to entering the military or police force. It focusses on instilling discipline and a strong work ethic in students. Hostel Our school hostel, Millennium House, is a home away from home for both boys and girls and is conveniently located on our school premises. Millennium House is run by a husband and wife team with the assistance of GAP tutors.

STARS Education Whanganui Inc provides Specialised Teaching, Assessments and Resources to students with Dyslexia and other LearningChallenges in the greater Whanganui and South Taranaki Area. At STARS Education Whanganui our teachers are all qualified, experienced classroom teachers, who have additional qualifications in the field of Specific Learning Disabilities. Additionally, our teachers participate in regular professional development workshops. Teachers and assessors are all police checked at regular intervals. All students are assessed thoroughly by our specially trained assessor before participating in the STARS programme. Our programmes are individually tailored to the specific needs of the student. Our methods are based on the latest in scientific and educational research. Generally, we work one-on-one with students. Our set-up is flexible to accommodate the needs of students and teachers. We work in schools, in our STARS rooms in Community House, and in teachers’ and students’ homes—both during and outside school hours. We run courses to better inform parents, classroom teachers, teacher aides and others about Dyslexia and other Specific Learning Disabilities We also provide social gatherings for students, families, teachers and other STARS supporters to meet in an informal and friendly way

National Organ Academy @ Collegiate The Chapel Restoration Foundation has established the New Zealand National Academy for Organists, annually at Wanganui Collegiate School from January 2013 Wanganui Collegiate is home to the annual National Organ Academy New Zealand's residential Academy for intensive instruction across a range of disciplines relating to pipe organ music. Colin Walsh's Vision of the National Organ Academy The Artistic Director in 2013 will be Colin Walsh, Organist Laureate of Lincoln Cathedral, and International Concert Organist. Tutorial staff will also be drawn from Collegiate's Foundation Music School, and the Australian and New Zealand College of Organists. Performance and Improvisation Classes will take place around the city (9 available Pipe Organs), centrally based from the Collegiate Chapel. Lectures and Masterclasses will also feature, around musicological areas, pedagogy, Historically Aware Performance, Concert & Recital Stagecraft, Essentials for the Liturgical Organist, Programming, etc. Students enrolled will also be given recital opportunities at numerous venues across the city as part of the Wanganui Festival of Organ Music 2013, successfully run since 2004. Land Based Training is registered and accrediated with NZQA as a Category One Provider. Our mission statement is as relevant today as it was when we first started in 1996. We are aiming to inspire our students with skills and knowledge through vocational education and training. This will then lead to more informed and positive employment and / or opportunities for students to staircase into higher level programmes of learning. Our objectives as a tertiary education organisation (TEO) is to offer our stakeholders the opportunity to have input into our courses ensuring their individual needs are being met and quality is being maintained.

We provide day time/evening/weekend courses on a wide range of subjects to people in the Wanganui region and beyond.

International students choose to come to Wanganui for one of three reasons. 1. Their friends have been here and they had a good experience and recommend the school. 2. The school's academic record. The students pass the NCEA assessments at rates 20% above the National average. Last year 90% of Year 11 students gained NCEA 1. 3. Outdoor education. The school's position close to the National Parks in the center of the North Island means we are able to use our surroundings to have an excellent outdoor education programme.
