Tauranga Montessori Educational Trust

Tauranga Montessori Educational Trust

20 Princess Road, Tauranga ,
Montessori@Bellevue was created and operates under the principles set down for education under a system developed by Maria Montessori in the early part of the 20th Century. Maria Montessori undertook scientific observations of many children where she observed that children almost effortlessly absorbed knowledge from their surroundings. She noted that children have an inbuilt ability to maintain interest in manipulating materials provided when they were allowed to do so naturally. This natural ability develops best when children are left to their own devices and adults merely provide them with the materials with which to educate and the system that produces teachers who can give children the best possible foundations for life. The materials and lessons developed by Maria Montessori have withstood the test of time. Bellevue School’s development and progression from simple to complex and concrete to abstract meet the needs of the children completely. It is based on the fundamental principals of planes of development set in three age planes the first being from birth to 6, the second from 6 to 12 and the third from 12 to 18 and it is built around the 3 hour work cycle repeated twice each day. Montesori@Bellevue has expanded from a single classroom in 2002 to three classrooms in 2007. Further growth is anticipated in the future. The Montesori principles of education and other philosophical principles defined by the Montessori system are formally supported by the Principal and Board of Trustees. Montessori teachers complete specialised training in addition to national teaching qualifications

Tauranga Time Bank

Tauranga Time Bank

PO Box 1187, Tauranga ,
How does it work? Time Bank Members post ‘requests for service’ on the Time Bank Community Site. Members who can provide that service make contact and a ‘time exchange’ occurs. The person receiving the service pays the person providing the service in time credits. 1 hour of time = 1 time credit. The person receiving the time credits can now use them to ‘buy’ time or work from any Time Bank member. Time Bank Members keep track of their exchanges and 'time credits' on our Time Bank site.
