Natalie McMurchie *Artist*
Natalie's paintings are inspired by her surroundings, with particular interest in the forms and structures of flora and fauna. Her sculptural background is evident in her paintings which often have a very form based approach. Natalie enjoys working with textures, patterns and forms and pushing the boundaries of traditional painting.
Natalie's faith is evident in her work. She draws inspiration from her spiritual life and her spiritual discoveries are often undertones in her work. She loves to explore contrasts in her work whether through the use of positive and negative space, chaos and order or light and dark.
A common subject matter in Natalie's painting is the native Tui bird. She combines this iconic and symbolic bird with delicate feminine detail and local flora and fauna. Her paintings are designed to be beautiful, something can you look at that brings a sense of joy to your life, whilst encompassing a deep spiritual meaning.
In 2003 Natalie attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, from Wanganui Quay School of the Arts. In 2009 she gained her Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching with Distinction from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute in Tauranga. Currently Natalie is producing her art work from her home studio in Otaki and teaching art at a local Secondary School.
