New Zealand Agriseeds Ltd
Agriseeds is a New Zealand plant breeding and research company that has specialised in pasture for the past 20 years.
We have now moved into supplying brassica seed, and seed coating, to further serve New Zealand pastoral farming.
Founded in 1987 and based on a 224ha research station near Darfield, we employ nearly 40 staff including plant breeders and agronomists, plus specialist seed laboratory staff, microbiology, and seed production people.
We also work with expert research partners including DairyNZ, Lincoln University, AgResearch, Pastoral Genomics and Massey University, to ensure Agriseeds products perform now and in farm systems of the future.
We are a member of the Royal Barenbrug Group, one of the world's leading grass seed organisations, with access to global technology that may otherwise not be available in New Zealand.
The Barenbrug Group
The Barenbrug Group is an internationally operating seed company, headquartered in the Netherlands, with strengths in plant breeding, seed production and marketing. Probably more so than any other seed company in the world, Barenbrug specialises in grasses.
Grass seeds, both for forage and turf, form the lion's share of the company's revenue. Of the remaining part alfalfa (lucerne) is the most important species, followed by clovers and some other forage crops.
Barenbrug, founded in 1904, has remained a family owned company, and today has subsidiary companies undertaking plant breeding and testing across the different climatic zones of all five continents. They have a portfolio of over 300 varieties with annual seed production for the Group of over 80,000 metric tons, marketed in almost 100 countries world-wide.
