Matariki Paparewa is a design and construct project by students of UNITEC’s Te Hononga Māori Architecture Studio as part of the 5th Auckland Triennial collaborative Lab project. Drawing cues from traditional Māori celebratory architecture, two structures are being constructed on Auckland’s waterfront to celebrate the local and specific history, identity and culture of Tāmaki’s Mana Whenua in the context of recent significant Iwi treaty settlements. Matariki Paparewa will be open to the public over the Matariki (Māori New Year) period 14th June – 7th July at Karanga Plaza and Silo Park, with a full program of events over this period.
