Kio Kio United Sports Club

Kio Kio United Sports Club

135 Paewhenua Road, Otorohanga ,
Mission “To provide a central Hub for our local rural community to enjoy participation in events and excellence in Sporting achievements” Vision “To bring together our local farming and Sporting communities to provide Leadership for the next Generation” About Us Kio Kio United Club was formed in 1952 by combining two country clubs Kio Kio and United. For the three previous years, the two clubs had been joining forces in various grades to make up teams to play in the Otorohanga Sub-Union competition. The Kio Kio Club was founded in 1923 and although some wished their team to be entered in the Waipa Competition, the Club eventually affiliated through the Otorohanga seniors and played in the Maniapoto Competition keeping Kio Kio in the now King Country Region and Club scene. A number of accolades pursued and seen as generational succession with the first life members Messrs Tom Cumpstone and Eaton Roberts having their family members as members today. And in 1968 Ian Ingham and George Peake completed 100 games each for King Country which only Colin Meads had this honour. To this day Kio Kio United Sports Club pride itself on being able to serve the local rural community by providing a clubroom that is available for events and facilities that can cater for up to 200, support Sports teams four of which are Rugby and Rugby Leagues related, Netball, Touch and Tennis. The management of these activities and services are all local and generationally connected to continue to advocate for the future of the Club. Our rural community is demographically made up of predominantly farmers and their families who when not working on their farms are wanting and needing a place that can provide the services and events that support them. And as community groups are limited we continue to work on ensuring what we do provide is appropriate and conducted in a manner which is seen to empower our younger generation, encourage use by adults and cater for the needs and social wellbeing of our elders.
