Bellyful Napier

Bellyful Napier

IS IT JUST FOOD? It's about more than the meals! While having dinner organized for you is a great help, our aim is to also acknowledge that being the parent of newborn (or a seriously ill child) can be incredibly stressful - and made so much easier if we don't feel alone. Bellyful volunteers are able to join you for a cuppa (if you like) or to give you the names of local coffee groups, play groups and other support services. We have lots of great contacts in our local communities - you can pick our brains! NO ADVICE! The only thing we won't ever do is give any parenting advice. We are not trained in this area so if you ask any questions regarding your babies health / feeding / sleeping etc, we will have to ask you to refer back to your midwife, Plunket Nurse or doctor. We just don't want to give the wrong information - and hey, do you really need another person offering their opinion?! THE CRITERIA: The family should have a baby under three months old and be lacking in a good support network OR The family has a seriously ill person in their family unit (parent or child) and be lacking in a good support network If you have a family that you know is struggling in a situation a little outside this criteria (for example, the baby may be 5 months old but there is a lack of support and a difficult baby) then please do contact us to discuss the situation. REFER: You can refer any family (even your own!) and the best way to do this is to go to our website: www.bellyful.org.nz find the branch that covers your area and email the Area Coordinator directly. WHO MAKES THIS POSSIBLE? There are many wonderful people in your community and all over NZ who volunteer their time to their local Bellyful branch. HOW DOES IT WORK? Women of all ages (and a couple of men too!) get together on a regular basis, in a large community kitchen, where they cook around 80 meals (from our Bellyful recipes). These are then placed into the Bellyful freezer where they wait to be delivered to local families who have been referred. Our service is completely free - not because you need the financial assistance, but because it's just one less thing for you to think about. WHERE DOES THE MONEY COME FROM? That's the tricky part... Bellyful branches do all of their own fundraising in their local community. So we need lots of support from the community! Please get behind us when you see us fundraising - or feel free to make a donation ;-)
