Zest Organic Store and Cafe
Zest is local Devonport cafe and store specialising in organic and health products, fresh juices, smoothies and food. Zest makes daily organic and vegetarian food with options including gluten free, sugar free, vegan and raw. Zest has the most decadent healthy treats around that go perfectly with a fresh juice or organic Kokako coffee. We stock a range of products from organic food, manuka honey and herbal medicines to organic beauty products, sleep supports and spirulina.
The main motivation for Robert
and Pauline in starting Zest Health
is to do something completely
different from all the other coffee
shops and lunch bars in the place
they love - Devonport. They want
to do something meaningful – “to
encourage a zest for life through
healthy eatingâ€. Recognising how
hard it can be with our busy lifestyles
to get our required amounts of fruit
and vegetables, Zest Health hopes to
offer more choices for people who
want to eat really healthy food some
or all of the time.
Everyone likes the fresh juices
and the fruit and yogurt smoothies
and some go for the famous green
smoothies. (Plus the brave can have
wheatgrass shots – 30 ml wheatgrass
juice has the same nutrients as 1
kg veges). There is also a range of
interesting healthy teas and delicious
Teeccino instead of coffee. The food
changes daily and includes salads,
soups and little cakes with lots of
gluten-free choices.
The atmosphere inside Zest
Health is relaxed and welcoming.
It is worth popping in just to see
the spectacular floors. There are
natural products sold, set out in an
uncluttered refreshing way, making
it easy for people to browse. There
is a great range of organic foods and
health and beauty products so you
can feel good on the inside and look
great on the outside too (including
mother and baby ranges).
The fruit, vegetables, milk and
baking foods are mostly organic,
as are the natural products on the
shelves. Zest Health see sugar as the
silent killer and there is no added
sugar in their cooking with honey
and other natural options (stevia,
xylitol) used instead. Butter is not
used. Super foods are constantly
being sought out. All goods are
bought as local as possible and by
season. Ethical and fair trading
and low carbon footprints are also
important.
Robert has a hospitality background
and a deep interest in health and well
being. Pauline has lived in Devonport
40 years and her background is
research and marketing. Zest is a
bit of a family affair as Pauline and
Robert are partners and Pauline’s
Daughter, several close friends and
a niece all working there.
The new owners see Zest Health as
a progression and are very keen to
get feedback from their customers
on recipe and other health ideas
