Blankenberge Belgian Beer Cafe
136 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna,
Auckland
,
From the early 1900s, 134-138 Hurstmere Road has had an interesting history.
Once the site of Government bungalows that lined the Devonport to Milford tramline, the 1950s witnessed the property transformed into a garage and used car yard before being converted into retail stores in the 1980s.
1996 saw the Rangitoto Brewing Company and R'toto Pub & Cafe occupy the site until the introduction of the Blankenberge Belgian Beer Cafe which was officially opened on 25th November 2002 by their Royal Highnesses Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde, the Crown Prince and Princess of Belgium.
Looking for an identity to truly reflect the Belgium culture, Belgium's most favoured seaside resort with its swathe of sandy beaches, vibrant cafes and bars was a natural choice for the name of the 40th Belgian Beer Cafe worldwide.
To ensure the authenticity, the entire fit-out including the bar, panelling, lighting, furniture, antique floor tiles, signage and memorabilia even down to the push-bike at the front door were sourced from Belgium, before being shipped in two forty-foot containers to our site here in Takapuna Beach.
The Belgian philosophy with regards to food combines French finesse with German generosity, whilst providing an ideal companion for some of the world's most famous and favourite beers.
On behalf of our team at the Blankenberge, I trust you will enjoy your visit to our little part of Belgium right here at Takapuna Beach.
Bon appetit'
