Puhoi Town Library

Puhoi Town Library

Puhoi Road, Puhoi ,
This fabulous tiny building, originally built 1913, houses the totally independent and free library service `Puhoi Town Library Inc'. It's not hard to believe that this is `one of the smallest libraries in New Zealand' and is featured on the cover of a book by the same name. Situated of the banks of the Puhoi River, there is truly no better place to spend a wet Sunday afternoon than curled up in the armchair in front of the roaring fire with book in hand. If it's summer, buy a $1 book off the fund-raising trolley and enjoy stretching out on the grass to read. This library service is offered free of charge (unless you're over due) to local residents and is a unique place to be- run by volunteers with all books generously donated. You may have seen this tiny building on the big screen as it has been featured in a number of movies. Being situated on the riverbank has not always been pleasant . . . Come along and view the flood levels marked inside the library - the `great flood' of 1924 was over 7ft high inside the building. . . perhps buy a fridge magnet or choose some books off the $1 fund-raising trolley . . . .You are always welcome at Puhoi Library.
