The Junction Vineyard owned by former All Black front row forward, John Ashworth and family, is located alongside State Highway 2 on the wind swept, stony gravels on the Takapau Plains.
In November 2004 the business was purchased from the original owner Geoff Hobern by Brian and Lyn O'Brien who have lived in the Bream Bay area for over 21 years. Brian was born and raised in Auckland and Lyn was raised in Waipu Cove on the family sheep farm, until moving to Auckland for her University studies where she gained a BA degree. They have been self employed for over 28 years and have a grown up family and grandchildren who live in Whangarei, Auckland and Australia.
We supply quality rated 4WD recovery gear.
Our aim is to provide the highest quality recovery gear (New Zealand manufactured when possible) at affordable prices.
Kandiah Suri Alpaca Stud is owned by Pav and Mark Stacey. Their farm is situated just 10 minutes from the wonderful small township of Waipu in Northland New Zealand.
Our herd of suri alpacas has grown dramatically from an initial purchase of elite suri females and we now have top class herdsires, some of which are available for outside matings.
Here at Kandiah Alpacas our breeding goals are to produce suri alpaca with exceptional fineness, lustre and handle so that the fleeces can be used to produce luxury clothing. Good quality alpaca fibre is amazing and once you have worn it next to your skin you will never go back to products made from sheep's wool. It is particularly suitable for baby clothes and blankets because of it's hypo allergenic qualities.
There are two breeds of alpaca - huacaya and suri. Kandiah Alpacas specialise in breeding the rare suri alpaca that represent only 10% of the world population of alpaca. Suri alpaca have wonderful fleeces with flowing locks that are often described as "curtains of silk". The Incas described it as "fibre of the Gods".
We are very proud of our breeding achievements, having produced multiple Supreme Champions. One of these is now for sale - Kandiah Tiaho who has won no less than 12 broad ribbons. We also have some excellent suri breeding females for sale - both coloured and white.
We always welcome visitors to our farm and hope you will take advantage of our luxury private farmstay accommodation and B&B so that you can really get to know all of our alpacas. We can arrange export to Europe for purchasers outside New Zealand.
