Cheltenham Festival Tour New Zealand
Andre Klein a racing administer from Wanaka New Zealand takes a small group of racing enthusiasts on an 8 day trip to the world famous Cheltenham Festival every March.
His day job is the CEO of the Otago Racing Club and the Secretary of NZ Jumps Inc He looks after the great Melbourne Cup day in Dunedin and the Cromwell Races.
The tour is co-ordinated in conjunction with the Flight Centre. It takes in the four days of the Festival, where guests are as close to the action as they can get with tickets to the Owners and Trainer marquee.Its the world finals of Steeplechasing and Hurdling with 26 races.
Everybody stays at the Bull Hotel in Fairford, a historic country inn located in the heart of the Cotswolds. Days are taken at leisurely pace, with short drives to places of interest including racing stables, nearby racecourses and popular tourist sites such as Stratford upon Avon, Chipping Camden and Moreton in the Marsh.
Guests arrive in the UK on Saturday afternoon, in time to get to their accommodation to watch the Six Nations rugby action and have a good dinner at a local pub.
Sunday is a relaxing day. A late breakfast is followed by a tour of the Cotswolds. There is plenty of time to take in some great sites.
The Monday before the Festival the group is treated to a walk of the course at Cheltenham and behind the scenes look at the jockeys rooms, vast grandstands and more.
Four days of Cheltenham - Tuesday, Champion Hurdle Day, Wednesday, Queen Mother Champion CHase Day, Thursday is World Hurdle (Stayers) Hurdle and Friday, the Gold Cup.
Saturday - relaxing day just driving around.
Sunday - stable tours in Lambourn, the famous racing town, lunch in the famous racing pub - The Pheasant....and then home to NZ.
