Nga Rito Homebase Childcare
INTRODUCTION - HE KUPU WHAKATAKI
HÅ«tia te rito o te harakeke,
If the heart of the flaxbush was removed,
Kei whea te kÅmako e kÅ?
Where will the bellbird sing?
Ka rere ki uta, ka rere ki tai
It will fly inland, it will fly seaward.
Ki mai ki ahau,
If, I was asked
He aha to mea nui
what was the most important thing
o tenei Ao?
In this world
Maku e ki atu,
I would be compelled to reply,
“He tangata, he tangata
“it is people, It is people
The rito is the centre-shoot or the heart of the flax bush. Women experts in flax weaving explain to learners that the rito, is a child, issuing from and protected by its parents and beyond them, by grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. The three centre blades – the “rito and rito awhi†should not be cut for weaving or the root will cease to put out new ones.
The name for the service emanated from the above analogy of the rito as “a childâ€.NGÄ€ RITO represents our young tamariki and mokopuna who need to be nurtured to continue to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
Manaakihia ngÄ tamariki mokopuna kia tipu whakaritorito ai ngÄ pÄ harakeke.
PHILOSOPHY - KAUPAPA RAPUNGA WHAKAARO
The service of NGÄ€ RITO was set up to provide holistic, stimulating, educational learning opportunities and experiences that are underpinned by tikanga/MÄori cultural practices and values, Te Reo MÄori and the support of whÄnau and NgÄ PÅ«reirei Kohu. These mechanisms will assist tamariki/children to grow, develop and reach their fullest potential.
Me poipoi, manaaki, awhi, ako, whakapakari ngÄ tamariki mokopuna ki ngÄ ahuatanga katoa o tÅ rÄtou ao MÄori kia noho tangata whenua ai i roto i o rÄtou whatumanawa, kia tÅ« pakari ai rÄtou i roto i tÄ“nei ao hurihuri.
MISSION STATEMENT - HE KORERO WHAKATAKANGA
To be the best Home-Based Childcare in the provision of quality care and education for tamariki, mokopuna/ children, aged 0-6 years, in nurturing environments that will support and strengthen their learning through the practices of manaaki, aroha, whakawhanaungatanga and tikanga.
The above Philosophy and Mission Statement for NgÄ Rito are aligned to the aspirations for children on pg 9 of Te WhÄriki. To achieve these aspirations, the Educarer and Coordinator will observe the wairua and interactions of each one of the tamariki/ children and use their observations to inspire and empower them to create and weave the intricate patterns of learning to enhance and extend the innate brilliance of each of the tamariki/children.
Me Äta tirotiro e ngÄ Kaipoipoi (Educarer me te Co-ordinator) te wairua o ia tamaiti kia mÄrama ai te whatu i ngÄ aho me ngÄ whenu o te whÄriki kia oti ai ko te tauira ako e tika ana hei Ärahi i ngÄ akoranga ki ngÄ tamariki.
