Make your way down the dark alley of Forrester's Lane and keep an eye out for the fourth door on the left; turn off too early and you'll wind up in the back of the burger joint next door. Ring the white doorbell and wait for the buzz, then pull on the handle and follow the stairs.
Once upstairs discretion and an emphasis on service is the name of the game, while our internationally recognised bartenders mix your drinks with precision and care backed by one of the most expansive collections of spirits in New Zealand, from the urbane to the rare and bizarre. In addition we also offer an extensive cigar list for your pleasure and a sheltered communal smoking area in which to partake, as well as a light snack menu available at all hours.
At motel we believe that the cocktail, with its rich, extensive history and varied global character is far too complex to define with a single cocktail list, and therefore we constantly rotate our featured theme menus to celebrate different eras in drinking history and seasonal flavours with an air of irreverence: previous themes have included the original Shanghai list, Smugglers and Highwaymen, the French Foreign Legion and the electric eclectic Tron menu, most of which still dot our walls today.
We also observe dates of importance every year with special commemorative menus, including Camerone Day, the anniversary of the Storming of the Ritz Bar and Prohibition Repeal day, as well as the usual suspects: St Patricks Day, Canada day, Bastille day and of course Xzibit's birthday.
So enjoy a fine cocktail, talk to our incredibly knowledgeable staff and relax; whatever you may have heard about burlesque dancers, angry elves, naked sportsmen, fire-extinguisher distillation, furious broadcasters, wild parties and copious amounts of Fernet Branca, it probably isn’t true.
