Scannell Hay Equipment

Scannell Hay Equipment

4 Holmglen Street, Timaru ,
Scannells range of hay equipment was introduced over 20 years ago initially with three models of bale feeders. New models were added as demand for a wider range to cover farmers needs increased and through changes in fodder conservation over the years. Scannells have been a leader in the development of new ideas and have over a dozen awards to their name. Over 20 years ago round balers were introduced for hay only, since then big square balers have arrived and from there in the early 90s baleage was the next change with wrapped round bales first then medium square bales. This is when we developed our first tube wrapper and our latest multi purpose tube wrappers would be among the best in the world, if not the best. There is nothing that will match our round bale tube wrapper, for ease of operation and performance. Twin conveyor continuous feed system can achieve up to 200 bales per hour. Baler manufacturers are continually changing their machines with chopping mechanism for baleage and aiming for more compaction and greater bale weight. So feedout equipment has to keep stride with this. In 1991 we developed a feeder that would feed everything and received an award at Lincoln Field Day in that same year. Changes and improvements have continued since then including a range of models and sizes from 2 bales up to 20.5M3. Models and a name change to Universal Stock Feeders which will feed pit silage, round and square bales or any combination plus self-loading for square or round bales, grain feeder, feed rotor for founds, wider tyres, electric controls. One very important feature of these machines in the reservoir of material is on the same level as the cross feed conveyor and has a traveling tail gate to push the material forward which eliminates the chain and batons used in conventional wagons so when loading bales in the rear bales can be pushed along the floor without snagging or tipping over into the feedout area. In mid 1999, B J Scarlett Ltd a long established engineering company took over the manufacturing of the Scannells range of products. They also have a large hydraulic division, crawler tractor undercarriage reconditioning department. This company is highly skilled and experienced in all aspects of general engineering, earthmoving equipment repairs, and container handling systems as well as recycling equipment.
