Dark Mondays
The PumpHouse’s script development initiative, Dark Mondays, is calling for submissions.
Monday nights are traditionally the night off for theatres, meaning no performances take place, hence the space stays dark. The PumpHouse will periodically host a directed play reading featuring a cast selected by the playwright and the Dark Mondays’ team. At the end of each reading, there will be a discussion and Q&A session, allowing the playwright to receive immediate feedback for a following draft. This initiative is supported by Playmarket, New Zealand’s playwright agency, and it is expected that some of the developed scripts will eventually be performed at The PumpHouse as complete theatre productions.
The PumpHouse is calling for both fledgling and established writers, directors and actors to become members of Dark Mondays. Member Writers are invited to submit new plays for reading. Member Directors and Actors will form the talent pool performing the readings. If you are interested in Membership with Dark Mondays, please email the address below.
If you have anything from a first draft or more, and are looking for venue to stage a read-through, complete with directed actors, please email your scripts to the address below. Preferred script lengths of 60 to 90 pages.
Dark Mondays also aims to host industry workshops and talks by guest speakers for writers, directors and actors.
