Shine - the Porirua education initiative

Shine - the Porirua education initiative

3 Serlby Place, Porirua ,
Education is important to our communities because it helps to develop well-rounded personalities, people who can think and contribute to work in society. Educated individuals build strong families and can access greater opportunities for employment. Initially consultation will be made with groups from a range of sectors to affirm what is working well in this city and to identify goals that will guide a collective approach to raising achievement and pride in the city. A Summit is being organised for June 14 with the intent of bringing together leaders from across Porirua’s political, commercial, social, ethnic and educational landscape. The output from the summit will be the identification of prioritised needs and an agreed work plan – at least 12 months of actions agreed as directions for change in Porirua. Shine is about giving young people in Porirua the opportunity to develop their potential to contribute fully in the community and become successful citizens of tomorrow.

Jamming the free world, one person at a time since 1998 at www.andhow.fm A licensed, non-commercial, world-class, indie, alternative, modern rock, retro & more local FM & truly international internet radio station since 1998. Playing indie artists from all over the world! Brought to you by Reverend Aquaman and the motley crew that are the 107.5 andHow.FM Air Force are jamming the free world, one person at a time. Since 1998 we have been filling your bandwidth and your airwaves, with stuff you wish you heard on the radio, plus your requests! 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on the interwebz and Down Underground at 107.5 FM in Paremata, Onepoto, Titahi Bay, Mana, Plimmerton, Karehana Bay, Whitby, Aotea, Papakowhai, Porirua Harbour/Pauatahanui Inlet, New Zealand plus over 170 other countries all over the world! Originally, a dream that was realized while we were broadcasting from laptops and lawn chairs high a-top the Rainbow Bridge in Bridge City, Texas. We have come thus far on our journey, almost 15 years later to the other side of the planet in Papakowhai, New Zealand. The veterans, defenders and caretakers of independent, commercial-free, internet radio now securely established deep in the studio bunker...in the new, world headquarters for AndHow. AndHow Web Radio was 'socially interacting' in the 'cloud' even before the Dot.com crash of the early 2000's. We were once taking our requests via ICQ and by e-mail, streaming to the world via dial-up internet in the days BEFORE broadband. Suddenly we were able to help make a very big world seem like a very cozy place to live. Today, andHow.FM is still socially interacting with the world via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace & our website. Broadcasting locally on 107.5 FM & on the internet at andhow.FM, we still love to bring new music to fans all over the world. We even give you the ability to "program andHow.FM" by picking selections from our library and getting them played back on the air via our requests page! Similar to Pandora & Spotify, but instead of an audience of one, you have a audience of thousands! http://www.andhow.org/playing.html TODAY'S '107.5 andHow.FM AIR FORCE' includes: Truly a lost genre of radio programming until now...'THE 80'S UNDERGROUND' resurrects the best in 80’s indie, college, punk, post-punk, new wave, and modern rock. Your host Jeff Shelton devotes a concentrated two hours each week to bring you the best in completely underground 80’s rock. DJ Hobo has one foot planted staunchly in the past and one foot pointed inquiringly at the future.....it's a good job he's got the 'MOODS FOR MODERNS' time machine to ramble about in. He wants take you along on a musical journey. Back in time and bang up to date, electronically and organically fuelled...there's only one certainty: there's not really a destination. Status: Ready for departure. Genre: unspecific. Pilot: unhinged On 'SIDEWAYS WITH A BADGER', Chris Munday delivers another 'dose' of retro, punk, new wave, blues and glam rock. Blowing the dust of the vinyl, cassette & 8-tracks he brings you some of the classic tracks you'd forgotten that you loved, from the Stranglers to Siouxsie Sioux, The Ramones to the Rolling Stones and Bowie to Blondie. His only brief is to raid the 20th Century for the best in rock and roots of rock. 'WOMEN IN MUSIC' the talents of a seasoned-veteran radio personality, ceremonial drummer & chantress Laney Goodman, brings you a weekly, one-hour radio series with an eclectic mix of excellent female, Indie music artists from around the world. Laney brings with her over 20 years experience as a radio presenter. In 'HOUSECENTRAL', UK/Ibiza club DJ Jay Forster hand picks the freshest House music cuts, exploring all areas of this exciting section of their pulsating and extensive dance scenes. Serving superbly crafted mixes creating a party on air! Previously producing shows for BBC1Xtra & now for andhow.FM his years of extensive experience speaks for itself. With one of the most successful Jamaican music shows on the internet 'BIGMIKEYDREAD REGGAE RADIO' w/Bigmikeydread aka Mike Murphy plays Jamaican Music from the 1950s to the Present day. Mento, Ska, Rocksteady, Early Reggae, Roots Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Modern Roots, Ragga and a whole heap more, including informative chat and enthusiastic silliness. 'UNDERCURRENTS', a freewheeling, eclectic music mix of Alternative & Indie rock, Folk, Blues, Native, Americana, World, Reggae, Dub and Electronica, diving deep to play your past & future favorites. A freeform blend of music with your mind in mind from the former EarthSongs host Gregg McVicar. 'DEEP THREES' - Music beyond boundaries for a digital world. Your host Jay mixes extended eclectic sets that fuse jazz, rock, modern classical, electronica, blues, global music and more with a show that dares to play long pieces that take music beyond boundaries. Underground music from the copyleft. Rediscovered gems from the past. Music with bite, passion and depth. 'MARVIN HAMSTER's MUSIC EMPORIUM' - A weekly radio show of alternate music from the 80's and 90's. Marvin Hamster, your rodent of retro, selects two hours of College Rock, Alt Rock, Early Techno and Industrial, or what ever strikes his fancy, for your listening pleasure. Adjust your raspberry beret, move your tricolor rat tail aside, put on your headphones, light up a clove (if you got 'em), and tune in! Glare with disdain at anyone that doesn't get it. 'THE POWER POP SHOW' - The credo of the Power Pop Show is simple: bring quality, melodically-driven rock to people who enjoy music. Your host Jeff Shelton meets in the middle, where melody and rock peacefully co-exist. If it rocks AND your mom likes it, it’s probably power pop! Often imitated, but never duplicated...107.5 andHow.FM! Got Indie? First Five Early Childhood Centre

First Five Early Childhood Centre

8 Upper Main Drive, Porirua ,
First Five is a community-based, not-for-profit early childhood centre that provides education and care for children aged between 4 months and 5 years. Because we are a non-profit organisation, your fees go directly toward running and maintaining the centre, and providing the best possible environment for your children to grow and learn. Our philosophy is based on the principle of partnership between parents/whānau and teachers to provide a child-initiated curriculum. First Five has a highly experienced and well-qualified teaching team of 7, with a very low turnover of teachers. The centre operates a ‘primary caregiver’ system to ensure children’s individual wellbeing and to develop and promote relationships between teachers and children and their families. The curriculum is carefully planned and is based on the principles of Te Whâriki and Kei Tua O Te Pai, to foster each child’s development with care and education elements intertwined to promote holistic development. First Five is committed to children feeling safe, enjoying their experiences and having fun at the centre. Visit our website at www.firstfivechildcare.co.nz What is Te Whâriki? – He aha a Te Whāriki? Te Whâriki is the Ministry of Education's early childhood curriculum policy statement. Te Whâriki is a framework for providing for children's early learning and development within a socio-cultural context. It emphasises the learning partnership between teachers, parents and whānau. Kaiako (teachers) weave a holistic curriculum in response to children's learning and development in the early childhood setting and the wider context of the child's world. Ministry of Education - Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga & ERO - Te Tari Arotake Mātauranga As a licensed and chartered centre First Five receives government grants towards the cost of running the centre.
