The Berry's are a 4th generation Otago farming family. Whitestone Cheese was founded in 1987 as a diversification during the 1980's rural downturn and a series of crippling droughts.
The original factory was set up in a commercial garage with milk sourced from local farms and one cheese variety Farmhouse was launched.
The business slowly grew as an extension of the farming operation until today's purpose built factory was commissioned in 1996.
Son Simon joined the business with a new set of skills and the farm was sold to concentrate on the growing the exciting family enterprise.
The Mill House is sited alongside the Waianakarua River in well-developed gardens through which access to the historic Otepopo bridge is possible.
Located 25 kms south of Oamaru on the main highway to Dunedin, the Mill House is a significant part of the historic tapestry of North Otago.

Shaun has lived in Oamaru for most of his 20 years, and was educated at Waitaki Boys High School. During his time at Waitaki he enjoyed success academically and also excelled in music and cricket and eventually led him to becoming a prefect and receiving an Honours Blazer. Shaun has always been active within the Waitaki community by representing different groups in various roles. Shaun recently attended a program in Auckland learning all the latest marketing strategies and techniques.
Shaun has high aspirations in Real Estate and feels that with enthusiasm he will bring a fresh approach to Real Estate in Oamaru.
We farm beef cattle and sheep, and during the months of August to November we also rear calves (and orphaned lambs). Our property is also home to assorted chickens, occasionally pigs, the farm dogs and family cat. Relax, wander the farm, interact with the animals. Enjoy the attractions around historic Oamaru.
