Whangaparaoa College

Whangaparaoa College

Whangaparaoa College, previously called Hibiscus Coast Intermediate School and originally called Stanmore Bay Secondary School, opened officially in 2005 as the result of a merger with the Hibiscus Coast Intermediate. The founding principal was Brian O'Connell, who served until 2012. James Thomas took over the principal role in 2012, succeeding O'Connell. The school is in a high socio-economic area (high decile number), and has tight zoning rules where students must live to attend the school. This method prevents overcrowding in a most desirable school.Being a new school, the facilities and technology used are leaders in the New Zealand education system, positioned on an environmentally aware site. 2006 saw the rise of two new high decile schools in Metropolitan Auckland, Whangaparaoa College and Botany Downs Secondary School.Located in Stanmore Bay, in Metropolitan Auckland's Rodney District, the school is one of the leaders in the country (recognised by the Ministry of Education) The school has had its first ERO report which commented on the high standard of educational delivery and the very good management of learner behaviour. The school is athletically involved within the North Shore City under the 'North Harbour' Region meaning its competition in this region is amongst the best in the country. To prevent 'zone cheats' the college used the 'ballot method' for its foundation year, under the supervision of the New Zealand Police.Contributing Schools in the Home Zone:Note: Attendance at a contributing school 'in zone' does not give automatic entry into Stanmore Bay Secondary School (Whangaparaoa College)

PO Box 790, Whangaparaoa ,
Shakespear Regional Park lies at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in New Zealand's North Island. It boasts sheltered bays, wetlands, regenerating native forest, cliffs, historic places and a lookout with views second to none. The Shakespear Open Sanctuary is a partnership between the Shakespear Open Sanctuary Society and the Auckland Council, and has the support of the New Zealand Defence Force, who also own land within the Sanctuary. The purpose of the Society is to turn this Regional Park into an Open Sanctuary by providing a safe haven for our native wildlife. To this end, we are building a pest-proof fence that will keep predators at bay. Our dream is that one day in the not too distant future, Shakespear Open Sanctuary will come alive with the calls of kiwi and the sights and sounds of myriad native wildlife. If you would like to find out more, please visit our website for more information. We are always looking for new supporters and volunteers to help us with this great project, so if you would like to get involved, please do get in touch!
