MMPO
The MMPO was established by the New Zealand College of Midwives in 1997
to provide its Lead Maternity Carer midwives with a supportive practice
management and quality assurance infrastructure and a business framework
enabling high quality continuity of care for women throughout Aotearoa,
New Zealand.
Our Main Functions
We support the sustainability of midwifery practices and maternity services
throughout New Zealand by providing a responsive practice management
support service and a midwifery focused electronic practice management
system that enables midwives to meet their service, financial and professional
commitments.
We also undertake a variety of projects for the profession, health service
providers, the Ministry of Health, research organisations and communities
that utilize the rich collection of data we manage around the provision of
maternity services in New Zealand by midwives.
These activities are achieved by providing the following:
1. A standardized, peer reviewed set of maternity notes and series of
individualized reporting templates.
2. Access to and ongoing support for an electronic maternity record and
practice management system incorporating the NZCOM data set and a suite
of reports.
3. A reliable maternity service claiming and payment systems for Lead Maternity
Carer midwives and associated maternity service providers.
4. Support for the role of NZCOM to develop and service the profession by:
• providing aggregated clinical information on midwifery activities and outcomes for benchmarking, research and service monitoring,
• undertaking projects that inform the development of midwifery services,
• collecting relevant maternity outcome data to ensure midwives can review their work against the standards of the profession and help women choosing midwifery led maternity care achieve high quality outcomes.
5. Information for consumers, the profession, LMC midwives and providers of maternity services to enable and support midwives to provide quality, woman focused care.
