Wellington Rover - Seal Colony and Wind Farm Tour

Wellington Rover - Seal Colony and Wind Farm Tour

After being completely closed for 5 years while constructing New Zealand’s Largest Wind Farm, Wellington Rover Tours has been granted EXCLUSIVE access to Terawhiti Station. The tour departs from central Wellington and we travel past some of the city’s most famous icons on our way to the suburb of Karori. We soon leave the city limits and drive through a real slice of rural New Zealand. Then it’s off the main road and into Wellington’s BEST scenery. We travel through the farm in comfortable, air conditioned 4WD vehicles, with guaranteed forward facing seats and plenty of photo opportunities! Some of the highlights of the tour include: 1. New Zealand Fur Seals We stop for refreshments at a real wild Seal Colony! Get up close (but not too close!) and personal with a real native New Zealand Fur Seal. Seals guaranteed year round, but numbers fluctuate seasonably. 2. Wind Turbines We travel through New Zealand’s largest Wind Farm. Get right up to the towering 111m turbines, harnessing the wind to generate clean, renewable electricity. 3. Terawhiti Farm Terawhiti Farm is one of New Zealand’s largest farms and has been in the same family since 1850. Learn about the fascinating history of the area and its connections to Wellington. 4. Farm animals Thanks to the roads installed for the Wind Farm, this is now a working farm again. We show you how the farm is being diversified to get the most out of the area without damaging the natural environment. 5. Goldfields Most locals don’t even know of the Gold mining history of Wellington. We show you the remains of the Goldfields and recount stories of the era when there were over 1500 people living on Terawhiti. 6. Goats There are over 3000 wild goats on the property. We are sure to see theses lovely creatures bounding over rocks and running up mountains like, well mountain goats! 7. Oteranga Bay / Cook Strait Cable A strategic part of New Zealand’s power grid. We visit where the power cable comes across the Cook Strait and joins the North to the South Island. Also learn about the local Maori History of this area. 8. Leaning lighthouse A Wellington landmark, usually only seen from the Cook Strait Ferry. One of Wellingtons oldest and most remote Lighthouses. This fabulous new tour is the best way to get out and see the real New Zealand. From early days of European settlement, an undergound tunnel system, fortifications and a Armstrong 6 inch disappearing gun, along side with other weapons, were built for the defense purpose against the Russian threat in 1885. the area was also active during WW1 & WW2.
Dolphin Encounter

Dolphin Encounter

96 Esplanade, Kaikoura ,
We enable you to swim with or watch the incredible acrobatic dusky dolphins of Kaikoura! Here at Encounter Kaikoura we offer you the opportunity to either swim with or to watch the awesome dusky dolphins in their natural habitat of the Kaikoura waters. Swimming with the dolphins is an open ocean experience and although snorkelling experience is useful, it is not essential. You do need to have some relevant confidence with your own ability in the open ocean. We provide you with a fully bouyant, 5mm thick winter weight wetsuit, snorkel, fins and mask. We also have spaces on board the same swimming vessel for spectators. Watching the dolphins here in Kaikoura is almost as much fun as swimming with them! They are so interactive with both the swimmers and the boats. We do not entice the dolphins to our boats or swimmers and so it makes a very natural and special encounter and one to remember!
