Stefanie Williamson Counselling & Psychotherapy
I have a background in Social Work which has given me a strong foundation of working with people of all ages strengths- based and solution focused. Throughout this part of my journey I felt drawn to my inner curiosity of wanting to understand how people came to be the way they are today, including me. I had a great mentor who invited me to join an experiential workshop in the Hakomi method, which became the first step towards three year training in Hakomi somatic/body-integrated Psychotherapy.
'Hakomi is a mindfulness-based approach to self-understanding. Mindfulness is not simply part of the 'tool kit' in Hakomi, but forms the very foundation of the therapeutic encounter. Our body's structures and habitual patterns become a powerful doorway to unconscious core material, including the hidden core beliefs which shape our lives, relationships, and the way we view ourselves and the world. Core material can be accessed and, within the safe container of therapy, can emerge into consciousness. Once conscious, it can be re-evaluated, and where appropriate, powerfully transformed.' After my graduation I began to work towards provisional membership into NZAP (NZ Association of Psychotherapists), which I have been accepted into.
I'm a contracted Therapist at Wellington Rape Crisis and also able to see clients in private practice.
