McCahon House

McCahon House

67 Otitori Bay Road, French Bay, Titirangi, Auckland ,
The McCahon House Project embraces and celebrates the past, the present and the future of New Zealand Art. In the kauri-clad foothills of the Waitakere Ranges sits a little red bach where Colin McCahon lived and worked from 1953 to 1960. The bach, in French Bay on the Manukau Harbour was carefully restored and opened to the public as an award winning museum and interpretive centre in late 2006. Next door, high in the canopy of the bush, is a treehouse residency and artists studio designed by Pete Bossley. Each year the Trust welcomes three talented New Zealand Artists to live and work in the bespoke apartment and studio. The artists are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the bush, birds and Kauri as well as the very real sense of the history and importance of New Zealand art. There is now an alumni of 14 artists who have had the chance to live and work in the natural and historic environment that surrounds the McCahon House.

Shakti Youth Ambassadors Network

Shakti Youth Ambassadors Network

Manukau Central Medical & Health Centre, 18 Manukau Station Road, Manukau City ,
OUR BACKGROUND Migration brings with it issues related to settlement, acclimatization to new cultures, cross-cultural barriers, etc. For the youth from immigrant communities, the process of integration while having to live in a traditional environment at home and adapting to western-value based environment outside of home, is a lot harder. In recognition of the issues presented by the youth from migrant and refugee communities, the Youth Unit of Shakti, a community organisation that has been servicing New Zealand’s migrant and refugee communities for 15 years hosted our first ever Youth Conference for young people of Asian, African and Middle descent to coincide with YOUTH WEEK. The Youth Conference, MYNZ (Migrant Youth New Zealand), was held on May 27, 2010 with the primary goal of empowering immigrant youth to talk openly about the challenges of living in New Zealand. TODAY Thanks to the support of Shakti Community Council, Auckland Council, Ministry of Youth Development, and private trusts, we will continue to develop this conference and other youth-focused activities in 2011! Stay tuned! Together we can make a difference. Let our voices be heard and make Aotearoa New Zealand a super-awesome multi-culturally inclusive place for all of us! Join us today!
