Equal Justice Project

Equal Justice Project

University of Auckland, 9 Eden Crescent, Auckland ,
The Equal Justice Project (EJP) is entirely run and led by students from the University of Auckland, Faculty of Law. Our student volunteers believe we are incredibly privileged as law students to have the skills to work within a sometimes very technical legal system. As such, EJP feels we have a duty to assist all members of our society in ensuring that their views are represented in the legal process. Often law of the majority negatively impacts the most vulnerable groups in our community and these group are frequently unable to express their frustrations. The mission of EJP is to address issues of equality, redress, and representation. EJP believes we must ensure -- on a very baseline level -- the fundamental opportunity for all members of our community to have their voices heard.

PO Box 8055, Auckland 1150 / Level 2, Problem Gambling Foundation Building, 128 Khyber Pass Road, Newmarket, Auckland ,
The Cool Schools Peer Mediation Programme is a proactive programme that empowers people by teaching them life skills and processes to resolve conflict peacefully. Individuals learn how to use conflict scenarios as an opportunity to build positive relationships with others. Non-violent, constructive, co-operative, win/win solutions to a problem are negotiated; agreements are made which are mutually acceptable to all parties concerned. When implemented as a whole-school approach, it has positive impact not only on students, teachers and parents but also for the wider school community. The programme is introduced through a full training for school staff in primary schools, and for staff and student mediators in secondary schools. The Foundation also offers school support through sales of multi-media resources, revisits, newsletters, network meetings, and symposia.
