Hornby Volleyball Club

Hornby Volleyball Club

The Hornby Volleyball Club was established in 1987. Currently the Hornby Volleyball club has a total of over 100 members, with 7 teams entered in the local Canterbury Volleyball Association Inc. competition on a Monday night. The winter volleyball season starts with training and trials at the beginning of March and competition starts mid April and concludes with Nationals in August/September. Our teams are involved in the weekly Monday competition at Pioneer Stadium and our A teams also play in the Southern League competition throughout the South Island which is required to win a place in Division one at Nationals. Our A league squads are our elite teams. We do our best to provide good coaching and management and to help fund them to attend tournaments and Nationals. Our Colts squads are our development teams - they comprise of predominately High School pupils and are the teams we hope to obtain our future A league players from. We try to support these teams by keeping fees to the minimum and providing as much support as they request. Our Women's B teams we hope will be competitive teams along side our A Team, not only able to compete against Division 1 teams in local competition but also in the Southern League. Our eventual aim is to get more than one team qualifying in Division 1 Nationals. The Classics Team are traditionally a group of older or experienced players that wish to play competitive volleyball in the CVA competition rather than just social Thursday night games. Many of the Classics Team have traditionally helped make up the bulk of our club administration and are therefore very important to the functioning of the club. Interested in joining? The next season of the indoor volleyball club competition in Canterbury will commence in April 2013. Like this page and keep a eye out for upcoming Club Activities & Trainings.
