The Alliance Française Wellington with over 1000 members is one of Wellington’s largest and oldest associations. It was founded as the Cercle Littéraire in 1908 by Harold Beauchamp, the father of Katherine Mansfield. It later became part of the worldwide Alliance Française network and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008. The Alliance Française Wellington is not just a centre for French language, but also for French culture. Although some of our events are in French, most are bilingual. Members do not have to be fluent in French to take advantage of our various activities.
