Skin Deep: Deep Tissue & Remedial Sports Massage
Random thought - we spend time and money servicing our cars on a regular basis to achieve a constant performance BUT how much time and effort do we spend on servicing our bodies which are the vehicle with which we interact with life and without which, it is very difficult to keep doing the things we love?
Who is deep tissue massage good for?
realistically anybody who has lived in their bodies and would like to give back to it and pamper themselves.
- active people who regularly undertake activities and experience aches and pains
- amateur athletes i.e. competing in the auckland run series, training for marathons
- people feeling tight or 'stuck' in their bodies
- mothers with sore shoulders, upper back and neck from breastfeeding/lifting children
- people recovering from musculoskeletal injuries and wanting to get back into activity/return to work
What are the benefits of massage?
- physical and mental release of tension
- increased circulation to the brain and muscles/joints/organs
- release of toxins and inflammatory chemicals which cause pain and physical and emotional stress
- injury prevention through removal of joint & muscle tension/adhesions which with sustained training can lead to injuries particularly as the training increases.
Areas of interest:
I am very interested in all musculoskeletal injuries, discomforts and pain causing issues but have a special interest in working with people who are recovering from an accident/injury including overuse and are looking to compete/attend a particular event.
I offer a range of skills within my deep tissue genre including neuromuscular retraining, trigger points, joint articulation, myofascial techniques but no manipulation.
Working consistently with clients allows a tailored treatment plan to develop with advice and treatment geared to the needs of each client including lifestyle & ergonomic modifications
Background:
I started training as a masseuse in London in 2005 as I always wanted to work with people but wasn't sure which field of healthcare to enter. I finished the 9mth sports massage qualification in early 2006 and began working as a part-time masseuse in the swiss ski chalet I worked at between 2006-2008.
In the summer of 2007 I landed my dream job as the masseuse to the UCI (the organisation who run professonal cycling) development cycling teams. I worked with the track and road teams, attending the 2007 Sydney & Beijing legs of the track world cup as team manager and masseuse. In 2007 I attended the road world champs in Stuttgart, Germany as the team masseuse, before returning home in Feb 08 to start studying to be an Osteopath.
Nearly 5years later I am almost finished that qualification and feel grateful for having discovered my path in life which drives me each day to be better than I was the day before, to deliver quality and to always keep exceeding expectations of my clients.
Interests:
When I am not studying or working I am a keen lover of anything in the outdoors and in good weather will always be found somewhere outside!
I am an active participant in kitesurfing, bodysurfing, paddle boarding, cycle touring, ocean swimming, and recently have been introduced to slack lining which may be a new hobby for non windy days!! Walking is also a favourite when time doesn't lend itself to more time consuming activities
Getting away from the city and heading to the northern regions of auckland and into Northland, which I would consider my playground of choice, is a high priority whenever I can see a window of opportunity.
Over the last year I've been exposed to coastal sailing and am keen to continue with developing these skills. One day in the not to distant future I would like to undertake an ocean crossing to somewhere where the coconut trees greet the water and the sand is crystalline white!
People are incredibly central to my well being and professional life. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by many thoughtful, interesting, talented, supportive and caring individuals who enrich my life in many different ways.
I am really interested in music, reading and being open minded to whatever experiences life has to offer me.
