Education is important to our communities because it helps to develop well-rounded personalities, people who can think and contribute to work in society. Educated individuals build strong families and can access greater opportunities for employment.
Initially consultation will be made with groups from a range of sectors to affirm what is working well in this city and to identify goals that will guide a collective approach to raising achievement and pride in the city.
A Summit is being organised for June 14 with the intent of bringing together leaders from across Porirua’s political, commercial, social, ethnic and educational landscape.
The output from the summit will be the identification of prioritised needs and an agreed work plan – at least 12 months of actions agreed as directions for change in Porirua.
Shine is about giving young people in Porirua the opportunity to develop their potential to contribute fully in the community and become successful citizens of tomorrow.
