Wellington Filipino Community Choir
The Wellington Filipino Community Choir first got together in 1996 to perform for Philippines to New Zealand. In 1999, the choir reformed to help raise funds with Bulwagan Foundation for a Filipino community centre. Since then, we continue to meet every week, moved by our inherent love of singing and friendship.
Our repertoire covers a wide range from sacred music, spiritual, popular, jazz to Filipino folk and modern songs.
The Wellington Filipino Community Choir is a mixed-voice choir and would like to see the choir grow. We are a friendly bunch and endeavor to encourage one another and while some are experienced singers, others have done little singing. It is a stimulating place to be on Monday nights.
The group has been self-directing for many years until recently, Robert Ty, a young gifted musical director saw our potential and decided to join us. We are privileged to have Robert take the choir to new heights.
Joining us is easy. You will need to have a love of singing and the ability to hold a tune and a keen interest in learning more, developing skills in choral singing and a commitment to our weekly rehearsals (Occasionally extra ones) and our performances - usually two or three major ones a year, ane some other smaller ones.
