The Bluff Sports & Recreation Club is a rural bar open every Friday night and holds events throughout the year.

The Snowline Ski Club was formed in 1966 principally by students of the Auckland Technical Institute. The club was then aptly named the ATI Ski Club. Within three years a lodge had been built on Mt Ruapehu on the Whakapapa side of the mountain. The lodge itself was fabricated in Auckland by apprentices at the Auckland Technical Institute, then dismantled and re-erected on site. The club changed its name to the Snowline Ski Club in 1975. The lodge is the second-to-last building on the left as you travel downhill from the top of the Bruce. The lodge can comfortably accommodate 32 people at any one time, with bunkrooms made up of four or six bunks. There is a large kitchen, dining and lounge area - complete with wood burner fire, which provides ample space for relaxation and conversation, even when the lodge is full. Other facilities available include a drying room, separate male and female bathrooms, lockers, ski racks, ski-waxing equipment, an outdoor balcony, and of course, many friendly and welcoming members. The club membership is made up of many families with age groups that vary from 2 years to 82 years. Membership is limited to 250 members so that all members have the opportunity to enjoy the club. Continuous regular maintenance and upgrading is carried out, mainly by members on various work parties throughout the year. All members are encouraged to participate in at least one work party each year. Work parties are generally a lot of fun and a good way to catch up with old friends or make new ones. Voluntary wardens are responsible for organising the duty roster at the club each day, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of those staying at the club. The wardens test things such as fire and evacuation procedures. Snowline Ski Club Incorporated is a legal entity under the Incorporated Society's act and has a legal and formal constitution. Like any organisation there is a requirement for all members to adhere to the constitution and the rules of the club. An annually elected committee of 11 members manage the club. The committee always welcome suggestions and feedback concerning the club. During the ski season a Custodian is employed to oversee the physical running of the lodge. Usually the custodian will cook dinner and be present during the week when a warden may not be available

Music Policy is fairly open so expect to see some serious international dj's in a range of genres, from Dubstep to Drum n Bass to Electro to Rock, as well as more regular events with astounding production. Ever get that 3am craving for a cheeseburger? 519 has it's OWN 24 HOUR MCDONALDS (ok, not quite our own but its right next door) so instead of a drive through on the way home, its barely a 30m walk to get that tasty satisfaction. mmmmm. From the beginning it is said the name Ngongotaha came from the discovery of the mountain by Chief Ihenga the great Maori explorer, Chief Ihenga accepted a drink of water from the calabash of the fairy women living on the mountain, when he drank the water a great fear fell over Ihenga, he fled in panic from the fairy people, it is believed to be from this incident the mountain got its name. Ngongo is the funnel, taha is the mouth piece of the calabash, the stream and the village below were named Ngongotaha. The original blazer monogram of the Ngongotaha Rugby League Club depicts Chief Ihenga, the stream, and the calabash. Ngongotaha Rugby League club was first established in 1938, the club went into recess during the war years, then there were times when the club changed to Hui Mai, Awahou and Waitete. These were Marae based treams from Ngongotaha, eventually the club was re-established as Ngongotaha Rugby League. Over the years the club has seen many talented players, the most famous name associated with the club would be the Orchard brothers, Robert, Phillip, Eddie and John. Robert and Phillip represented NZ, Phillip has recently been inducted into the NZRL Hall Of Fame. Ray Turton is the longest serving member of the club with more than 50 years service. Ray still remains active by attending meetings and helping out with the famous Hangi Fundraisers. Ngongotaha Rugby League has in latter years produced many talented age group players - NZ 15s, 16s, 17s, 18s, Junior Kiwis, NZ Maori and NZ Kiwi (Mark Woods) In the eighties 2 teams toured Australia under the guidance of Nick and Jenny Nahu who would become the backbone of the club. As coach of the club Nick took the 17s team to Australia in 1982 and 1984, both teams were unbeaten. The club grew in strength and numbers of teams, its strongest years were the late 80s and 90s, many of the players from the 17 year old touring teams went on to cub Premier grade as well as representing Bay of Plenty and NZ. All throughout its years the club never had its own club rooms, the committee would have to hire other club or hall venues for after match or club functions. In the 80s the committee formed a building fundraising group, they struggled to find a piece of land they could afford to buy, until the Rotorua District Council made the generous offer of the last section at Neil Hunt Park. This was an annual lease arrangement for which the members were incredibly grateful. Through lots of hard work and dedication the club rooms were built and at last we had a home of our own (no more carting our pots and dishes into someone else's buildings). Over the years the club room has been used for Weddings and other functions. It has recently had a makeover and is available for hire for functions, meetings and conferences (See Clubroom Hire page) For the last 4 years a Junior team has traveled to Auckland to play a curtain raiser for the Warriors. We have teams that play in the Junior, Senior & Premier competitions. If you would like to join a team, please get in email, facebook or text/call the contact number.
