Tommy's Place Paihia
Tommy's Place is a private & tranquil bed & breakfast/homestay accommodation facility conveniently located within a 5 minute walk of central Paihia.
Not really suitable for young children - we don't have single beds - however, all enquiries welcome.
Paihia is the main tourist town in the Bay of Islands, an area in the far north of the North Island of New Zealand. It is also a popular destination for deep sea fishing, swimming with dolphins, whale watching and sailing - to name just a few of the activities available. There are also many non water related activities, for instance, the entrance to our property lies directly adjacent to the Paihia Lookout walking track.
Opposite Paihia, a short but very relaxing ferry ride away, is the historic town of Russell. Affectionately known as Romantic Russell. Russell was the first Capital of New Zealand. Also close to the township of Paihia is the historic settlement of Waitangi. Further north, approximately a 25 minute drive is the bigger township of Kerikeri.
The Bay of Islands is a 3 hour drive north of Auckland city. It is a beautifully scenic drive with many interesting places to stop off, stretch your legs, have a cuppa and just break up the journey. Two of our favourite spots to stop for a hot drink and snack are:
The Deli in Waipu
The Cider Shed, SH1, Warkworth. Heading north, on the right hand side, it is about 2 - 3klms past the 2nd set of traffic lights in Warkworth.
Steve and I have lived in Paihia for 16 years now. We bought a 2 storey house and turned it into a backpacker's lodge called, "Tommy's". After 6 very busy years we sold Tommy's and moved on to other things. Sue works voluntarily as the Treasurer for a local charity, The Friends of the Williams House, Paihia Library Inc., and also runs the Williams House Book Garage, the charity's main fund raiser.
Loving dogs is essential because Jack, our 12 year old Lhasa Apso also lives here. :)
