Based in mid Canterbury, with 13 high quality, irrigated farms, ranging in size from 450 – 2000 cows, we offer great opportunities for people to establish and progress their dairy farming career.
The arable farming enterprise of Jane and John Wright's business has recently reduced in area to 190 ha, with 360 ha of irrigated land being converted to dairying with partners Trevor and Stacey Monson and the Methven Motors Group.
The arable business grows wheat, barley, peas, cockfoot seed, and perennial ryegrass seed. The seed crops are processed and packaged on farm for proprietary seed companies. The grain crops are predominantly used for feeding the dairy cows of the Methven Dairies business.
Under the guidance of Manager Millan Bungard the Wright Farms team also provide cultivation and planting services to a further 200 ha neighbouring land belonging to David and Sandra Wright.
Partners John and Jane Wright, Trevor and Stacey Monson and the Methven Motors Group converted the 360 ha irrigated arable farm for the 2012 milking season.
A 60 bale rotary shed is used to milk 1350 cows utilising the latest Milfos automation technology.
Five centre pivot irrigators and fixed corner sprinklers use Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation water to provide reliable grass growth over the entire effective area.
Milk is supplied to the Fonterra cooperative.
