Historically this wider area including Te Ahuahu, Waimate North, Oromahoe, Pakaraka, Ohaeawai and Ngawha was known as Taiamai and was well known and regarded for the fertile soil for growing food to sustain the people and for trade. It is also well known for battles that were fought in with the British in the 1840’s and also for the establishment of Christianity among the Maori people. Our history and whakapapa is illustrious and rich and efforts are being made to encourage whanau to reconnect back to their whanau, marae and lands. Heavenly Faces - Makeup Artist

60 Waitaheke Road,, Ohaeawai ,
Lynnette formed Heavenly Faces in 2002. She has been an internationally qualified makeup artist since 2000, but grew up playing with makeup from a very young age. It was a well known catch-cry "Lynnette will do your makeup" so as her technique grew, she decided to receive as much training from the professionals, including training as an aethesetician to have a deep understanding of skin as the canvas for her art.

RNZAF Base Ohakea

RNZAF Base Ohakea

RNZAF Base Ohakea is an operational base of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Opened in 1939, it located is near Bulls, 25 km north west of Palmerston North in the Manawatu. It is also a diversion landing point for civilian aircraft.Early daysAn air base was originally proposed in the area in 1927, when Ohakea was selected as the most suitable site for a mooring mast for airships of the British Imperial Airship service. It was proposed to build one mast for a demonstration flight, with the potential for expansion to a full airship base with three masts, airship sheds and hydrogen production. However, there was no point in going ahead with the development of the site without a commitment from the Australian Government to build masts to provide bases in that country. When the Australian Government declined to build masts, the New Zealand Government declined likewise.
